Empowering B2C Customers with a Modern Digital Banking Platform
The Challenge
Traditional co-operative banking in Kerala has heavily relied on physically visiting bank branches, physical passbooks, and cash-based operations. For modern retail customers, this lack of mobile access created friction. The challenge was to design a robust, secure, and user-friendly B2C mobile application for Kerala Co-Operative Bank that makes everyday operations—like checking savings balances, making direct payments, and controlling debit cards—intuitive and straightforward.
Project Process & Timeline
Conducted interviews with co-operative bank executives to understand local banking regulations and technical infrastructure constraints.
Engaged with local retail customers, farmers, and merchant accounts in Kerala to identify primary user workflows and mobile accessibility barriers.
Structured navigation hierarchies to give critical information—savings balances, quick transfers, and card status—immediate top-level availability.
Applied Kerala Bank's trust-anchoring blue branding coupled with simple typography and high-contrast interface elements for accessibility.
Understanding User Insights
Traditional co-operative banking in Kerala has heavily relied on physical branch visits. Through mapping user journeys and field feedback, we identified three critical friction areas:
- Opaque Balances: Users had to physically update passbooks at co-operative branches just to confirm transaction receipts or check balances.
- Cluttered Transfers: Standard banking applications make peer-to-peer transfers multi-step processes, frustrating daily small payments.
- Insecure Card Control: Card blocks and ATM PIN resets required physical forms or calling Customer Support, leaving accounts vulnerable during card losses.
Designing the System
The Kerala Bank App transforms everyday operations by offering a robust, secure, and user-friendly B2C mobile application. It simplifies account statements, digital payments, and card controls into seamless, single-tap actions.
Overcoming Obstacles & Prototyping
Our primary design challenge was to make account statements, payments, and ATM card management accessible and transparent for all age groups, including elderly co-operative members who rely on physical passbooks.

Design System & Colors
A cohesive color palette was constructed to define the brand visual identity. Headings leverage premium Instrument Serif typography while structural content uses clean Inter sans-serif sizes.

Key Results & Summary
